About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Design Leader to join our Amazon Advertising User Experience (AUX) team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and scaling design teams dedicated to creating innovative experiences that connect brands with their customers globally and at scale.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Customer Advocacy: Advocate for customers and UX as a discipline, owning high-level escalations and influencing strategic design leadership to foster a shared understanding of the customer-centric intersection between design, content, business, and technology needs.
  2. Team Leadership: Hire, retain, and develop a diverse team of design leaders, creating a culture of inclusion and creativity. Delegate appropriately, audit, and inspect regularly.
  3. Design Quality and Process: Raise the bar on design quality, end-to-end process, and deliverables. Spend majority time on the overarching portfolio strategy, negotiating priorities, and driving clear solutions with cross-functional product and tech directors using extensive expertise and high judgment.
  4. Design Alignment and Systems: Drive the mechanisms used by the design team to get alignment on customer problems and product vision. Ensure that we have the right scalable systems and mechanisms that enable federation of design work without sacrificing quality.
  5. Stakeholder Relationships: Maintain healthy relationships with partners and stakeholders in locations around the world, prioritizing based on customer need, not internal interests. Exhibit excellent judgment and resolve challenging issues to move the product forward.
  6. Customer Needs and Ambiguity: Work proactively through the ambiguity of understanding customer needs, defining new products, and applying new technologies. Bring structure to ambiguity or uncertainty, ensuring the resulting experiences are simple, clear, and compelling.
  7. Staying Current: Stay endlessly curious by staying on the cutting edge of what's new in technology, AI, and UX, leading the team to experiment with new promising tech and design solutions.
About the Team

Our team is responsible for defining and delivering a collection of self-service enterprise advertising products that drive discovery and sales. We deliver billions of ad impressions and millions of clicks daily, and we're breaking fresh ground to create world-class products. Our team works backwards to meet the needs of our advertising customers, focusing on creating a great customer experience.

Qualifications
  1. 15+ years of experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, product designer, or similar role designing mobile, web, and/or other applications.
  2. An online portfolio of work demonstrating experience creating great user-centered design solutions across desktop and mobile devices.
  3. Excellent communication, presentation, and storytelling skills.
  4. Proven experience with rapid, iterative design and development processes.
  5. Proven track record presenting to and influencing people, from other designers to senior executive management, on goals.
  6. Experience leading projects in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team including designers, researchers, writers, product managers, and software developers.
  7. Fluency in best practices for multi-modal experiences and design, as well as strong knowledge of usability principles and techniques.
  8. Bachelor's, or equivalent degree, in Design, HCI, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. 10+ years of experience successfully leading and managing scaled design teams of 40+.
  2. Strong bias for action, including the ability to juggle multiple priorities and effectively deliver in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  3. Be willing to roll up the sleeves to meet business and product deliverables.
  4. Design operations experience required to drive organizational excellence in design, product roadmaps, project planning, and resource prioritization.
  5. Possess excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
  6. Experience with advertising products and technology.
