PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: The Commodity Manager will be instrumental in supporting the manufacturing needs through the procurement of critical assigned commodities. This position requires the application of expertise and independent judgment to make decisions that significantly impact the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Gain proficiency in the S&OP process by collaborating with scheduling, plant operations, sales, and engineering to create forecasts and implement procurement systems that enhance efficiency.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of assigned commodities, including pricing, market trends, global supply chains, and supplier capabilities, while sourcing from competitive suppliers that meet requirements.
  • Engage with suppliers to ensure reliable capacity and timely deliveries that align with manufacturing schedules, including support for urgent expediting efforts.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions, as well as lead times, while formulating contracts and agreements with suppliers to reduce overall costs, enhance quality, and ensure timely delivery with moderate oversight.
  • Assist in the development and execution of supply management processes that maximize supplier contributions and support strategic objectives.
  • Lead and organize commodity teams to improve internal communication and foster consensus management and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the assigned manufacturing facility or commodity to assess material availability, purchase order performance, and inventory management.
  • Oversee a team and establish the overall purchasing strategy for the designated manufacturing facility.
  • Work closely with design engineering to create new products through the exploration of raw materials, design options, and procurement opportunities that may reduce costs or enhance product quality and value.
  • Maintain updated supplier data for parts and contribute to departmental efforts aimed at improving procedures, processes, and overall efficiency.
  • Embody and uphold the organization’s core values in all actions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Professional certifications such as CPM or APICS are advantageous.
  • A minimum of 7 years of direct purchasing experience in a manufacturing context.
  • Experience in leading small teams is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of industrial markets, manufacturing processes, and the technical aspects of industrial commodities.
  • Highly organized and disciplined, with a commitment to high work standards.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with colleagues and suppliers.
  • Ability to act with integrity and make ethical decisions promptly.
  • Strong capacity to perform effectively under pressure and in challenging situations.
  • Exceptional negotiation skills that facilitate agreements between parties.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Standard office environment with regular exposure to production settings.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds may be required.
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Extended periods of sitting at a computer may be necessary.
  • Occasional physical activities may involve working in confined spaces.
