Internship activities may encompass the following:

  • Orientation sessions, training events, field excursions, social gatherings, weekly seminars, and chances to connect with functional business leaders and executives.
  • Engaging in ongoing coaching discussions with your supervisor, who will guide you throughout your internship experience.
  • Being paired with a dedicated mentor for additional support, helping you navigate technical challenges and day-to-day inquiries related to the corporate environment.
  • Presenting your findings to senior business leaders and key stakeholders at the conclusion of the internship, showcasing your learning and insights gained during your time with us.

Our Refining operations encompass global refining, marketing, and transportation of petroleum products and associated specialty businesses. Through its refining segment, Phillips 66 transforms crude oil and other feedstocks into higher-value petroleum products, including clean-burning gasoline, ultra-low-sulfur diesel, jet fuel, lubricants, and other specialty products, all while prioritizing safety and environmental considerations.

An Engineering summer internship with Phillips 66 Refining presents opportunities to contribute to our Refining or Midstream sectors:

  • Projects are selected to provide a comprehensive understanding of the role of an engineering professional within Phillips 66. Focus areas may include process optimization, enhancing energy efficiency, managing key logistics, improving equipment reliability, monitoring emissions, or completing permit applications, as well as optimizing equipment usage by identifying and rectifying defects through advanced modeling and data analysis software tools. Each project will address critical business needs.
  • Collaborating closely with seasoned engineers and networking with fellow interns.
  • An introduction to corporate practices, procedures, and technical tools, along with technical training sessions and on-the-job learning experiences.
  • Internship placements may be available in various locations.

Required qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country.
  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science/Corrosion, Metallurgical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • More than 30 hours of earned college credit.
  • Anticipated graduation date of August 2025 or later.
  • Available for a minimum of eleven continuous weeks.
  • Must be able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to maintain a proper seal for a respirator/face mask (this may include being clean-shaven).

Preferred qualifications:

  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Previous internship experience with Phillips 66.
  • Prior internship or co-op experience in a related industry.
  • Willingness to work in any of our operational locations.
  • Valid driver's license.

The Ponca City Refinery operates with advanced facilities, processing a variety of crude oil and producing a significant percentage of transportation fuels and anode-grade petroleum coke. Refined products are primarily distributed to markets throughout the region.
