INTERNSHIP ROLE:
This entry-level, seasonal position offers a pathway to potential full-time employment. We seek collaborative individuals who contribute positively to the work environment and are committed to completing projects efficiently and within budget. The intern will report to a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and will:
- Engage in a 12-week practical rotation, gaining exposure to various civil engineering fields such as land surveying, transportation, water resources, wastewater management, drainage systems, site design, and construction oversight.
- Support project surveying, data analysis, and the creation of construction documentation and specifications for municipal infrastructure and land development projects.
- Exhibit strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Assist in developing engineering project plans and profile sheets.
- Review project specifications, contracts, and bonds, and participate in on-site inspections.
- Perform calculations related to roadway surfacing.
- Modify standard cross-sectional designs as needed.
- Incorporate feedback and revisions into project plans.
- Accurately complete necessary forms and permits.
The ideal candidate is pursuing a degree in Civil, Environmental, or Biosystems Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution and is within two years of graduation. Candidates should possess:
- A desire for hands-on experience across various civil engineering disciplines, including transportation, water resources, wastewater, drainage, and bridge engineering.
- Technical understanding of engineering systems, materials, and methodologies.
- Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam or a scheduled exam.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse professional teams.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities.
- Organizational skills and a proactive approach to learning.
- Capability to prioritize tasks and delegate when necessary.
- An interest in pursuing a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with Autodesk Civil 3D, MicroStation, InRoads, and/or OpenRoads is preferred.
- A valid driver's license.
