Job Overview

POSITION:

The Lead Packaging Specialist plays a crucial role in overseeing the duties of a Packaging Specialist. This position involves mentoring and guiding newly recruited Packaging Specialists, as well as facilitating the training of updated procedures related to product packaging. The Lead Packaging Specialist is also responsible for the initial organization of shift tasks, including rotations and break management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Set a consistent example by performing all duties of the Packaging Specialist while adhering to Production, Quality, and Safety standards.
  • Educate newly hired and rehired permanent and/or temporary staff on Packaging Specialist responsibilities, ensuring compliance with:
    • Standard Work Procedures (SWPs) or Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
    • Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Safe Quality Foods (SQF)
    • General Safety Regulations
  • Instruct team members on new or revised policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with Packaging Specialists and the Quality Department to guarantee that products are packaged according to specifications.
    • May involve printing and providing labels.
    • Support InfinityQS initiatives.
  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization during shifts, particularly during handoffs.
  • Coordinate with Operators and Material Handlers to ensure timely restocking of packaging materials on the production lines.
  • Work alongside Supervisors and Lead Operators to facilitate smooth shift transitions, focusing on the success of the incoming team.
    • Help ensure fair distribution of work assignments and rotations among Packaging Specialists.
    • Adjust work assignments in response to absences or partial absences.
    • Communicate any quality or safety concerns effectively.
    • Assist in monitoring and reporting shift production outcomes.
  • Provide relief for Packaging Specialists as needed.
    • Fill in for absences or partial absences.
    • Cover breaks and meal periods, as well as necessary personal time away from the workstation.
    • Assist in scheduling breaks and other time away from the workstation.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:

Interpersonal/Communication:
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively within a cross-functional team.
  • Willingness to engage with others and actively participate in training and mentoring.
  • Understand the role of serving as a liaison between Packaging Specialists and production supervision, line operators, quality, and safety teams.
  • Capable of presenting expectations diplomatically and providing constructive feedback to supervisors.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or industrial environment is preferred.
  • Prior experience in a training or leadership role is advantageous.
  • Experience with repetitive tasks at a consistent pace is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated record of safety, efficiency, quality, and attendance.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is preferred.
ADA - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Ability to stand and walk continuously on a concrete surface.
  • Frequent use of hands, fingers, arms, and shoulders.
  • Regular reaching and lifting up to 30 lbs.
  • Frequent rotation or twisting movements.
  • Visual acuity for detailed tasks.
