Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Shift Operations Manager to lead and motivate a team in our fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role ensures smooth production operations, manages team performance, and upholds safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safety Management
    • Lead safety efforts throughout all departments in Manufacturing.
    • Include safety performance of press personnel and safety systems and procedures in Press Department.
    • Actively participate in safety programs and make safety observations, also contribute to a safety team.
    • Review all observations related to assigned press and accept responsibility for follow-up.
    • Complete incident investigations and send reports via email before the end of the shift when an incident occurs.
    • Follow up on investigations and complete a thorough report with the department manager within 24 hours.
    • Accountability for fire and tornado drills.
  • Press Operations
    • Manage and be responsible for operations of assigned press 24 hours a day.
    • Implement and maintain the 5S program for assigned press.
    • Conduct monthly meetings with personnel on assigned press:
      • Review safety concerns, maintenance concerns, production numbers, and customer complaints.
      • Evaluate employees on assigned press.
      • Look ahead on the schedule and have run conditions for jobs not meeting budget.
      • Coordinate with maintenance on work orders and PMs for assigned press.
      • Approve color matching for presses on scheduled shift.
      • Analyze press production and improve process where opportunity exists.
      • Pre-production meeting with graphics.
      • Job short orders.
      • Coordinate priorities and efforts of maintenance and engineers.
      • Drawdown books.
      • Sign off on all MRs on shift and document corrective action taken.
      • Minimum of one procedure audit per shift to support coaching and training efforts of helpers.
  • General Responsibilities
    • Management representative responsible for all plant operations on night shifts.
    • Strong communication with production manager on all process and personnel issues.
    • Makes decisions concerning troubleshooting and employee issues.
    • Knows, understands, implements, and enforces plant procedures and policies.
    • Leads teams formed to deal with production, manufacturing, and safety issues.
    • Daily 5S shift audits.
    • Daily production status report.
    • Raw material rejections.
    • Inspect and sign off on all returns to ensure good quality product is being produced.
    • Cylinder check sheets.
    • Adjust crews accordingly to minimize overtime but still meet goals.
    • OK sheets filled out and checked off.

Education and/or Experience

Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or minimum of one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
