POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Packaging Associate plays a crucial role in overseeing the functions of the Packaging Associate. This position includes the responsibility of mentoring and retraining new hires as well as updating procedures related to product packaging. The individual will also manage the initial setup of shift assignments, including rotations and break coverage.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Exemplify and execute all duties of the Packaging Associate while adhering to Production, Quality, and Safety standards.
  • Educate newly hired and rehired employees on Packaging Associate tasks in compliance with:
    • Standard Work Procedures (SWPs) or Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
    • Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Safe Quality Foods (SQF)
    • General Safety Regulations
  • Provide training on new or revised policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with Packaging Associates and the Quality Department to ensure products meet packaging specifications.
    • May involve printing and supplying labels
    • Support InfinityQS initiatives
  • Ensure cleanliness standards are upheld during shifts, particularly during hand-offs.
  • Assist in monitoring the need for restocking packaging materials on production lines
    • Work alongside Operators and Material Handlers to facilitate effective changeovers.
  • Partner with Supervisors and Lead Operators to guarantee smooth shift transitions, focusing on the success of the incoming team
    • Help ensure fair distribution of work assignments and rotations for Packaging Associates
    • Adjust work tasks in response to employee absences
    • Communicate quality or safety issues and outstanding items
    • Aid in tracking and reporting production outcomes for the shift
  • Provide relief for Packaging Associates as needed
    • Substitute for absent or partially absent Packaging Associates
    • Cover breaks and meal periods, as well as necessary bathroom or office visits.
    • Assist in organizing and scheduling breaks and other time away from the workstation.
  • Additional tasks as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

Communication:
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively within a cross-functional team.
  • Willingness to engage with others as both a learner and an instructor.
  • Recognizes the importance of serving as a link between Packaging Associates and production supervision, line operators, quality, and safety teams.
  • Capable of presenting expectations diplomatically and providing constructive feedback to supervisors.
Technical Proficiency:
  • Utilize knowledge of Packaging Associate responsibilities and procedures to assist in the development and review of Standard Work Procedures (SWPs) or Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ability to analyze production data to provide relevant information for determining runtimes and assisting in the timing of production changeovers.
Safety Awareness:
  • Demonstrates a commitment to safety as a core value.
  • Remains vigilant regarding personal actions and those of others to prevent incidents.
  • Basic understanding of machinery and equipment to identify potential hazards.
  • Proactively identifies and reports unsafe behaviors or conditions to supervisory staff.
  • Familiarity with emergency stop procedures and Lock Out Tag Out protocols.
  • Participates in incident investigations and New and Altered Equipment Reviews (NAERs) as necessary.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or industrial environment is preferred.
  • Experience in a training or leadership role is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with repetitive tasks performed at a consistent pace is beneficial.
  • Proven record of safety, efficiency, quality, and attendance.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to stand and walk continuously on a concrete surface.
  • Frequent use of hands, fingers, arms, and shoulders.
  • Regular reaching and lifting up to 30 lbs.
  • Constant rotation or twisting of the body.
  • Visual acuity is necessary.
