Position Overview:

The Senior IT Project Manager plays a pivotal role within our Success Services division, ensuring that the IT department operates effectively and efficiently in executing its project initiatives through the application of project management best practices and methodologies. This leadership role is crucial in shaping the execution of IT projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reports directly to the Director of Information Security.
  • Operates within a matrix organizational structure, possessing authority over resources allocated to their projects.
  • Transforms loosely defined projects into clear objectives through the initiation process, collaborating with sponsors and key stakeholders to establish shared goals and a viable project plan.
  • Implements all five project management processes as outlined by PMI: initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing.
  • Organizes meetings with project team members and stakeholders to facilitate project progress.
  • Delivers status updates to sponsors and team members, ensuring all parties are informed about project status, upcoming tasks, and any issues that need resolution.
  • Manages 8-10 high-profile projects concurrently.
  • Identifies and resolves challenges, removing obstacles for project teams to maintain schedules.
  • Assists project sponsors in defining budgets and tracking expenditures against those budgets when necessary.
  • Collaborates with IT department managers to secure project team resources and prioritize tasks.
  • Engages in negotiations with project sponsors and team members while developing project schedules, holding the project team accountable to established plans.

Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of experience in managing technical and infrastructure projects, such as system migrations or coordinating technical initiatives related to acquisitions.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage numerous details effectively.
  • Strong leadership capabilities, demonstrating confidence in taking ownership of projects and developing actionable plans.
  • Excellent communication skills, both formal and informal.
  • Advanced understanding of project management principles, including the PM triangle (scope, cost, schedule), critical paths, and completion estimates.
  • Familiarity with Jira Software, Microsoft Teams, or similar collaboration tools.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft networks, data center operations, servers, and VPNs; this knowledge is essential for effective communication with stakeholders.
  • Experience in the software industry is advantageous, particularly in K-12 EdTech.
  • High emotional intelligence (EQ) to effectively interpret and respond to team dynamics.
  • A pragmatic approach to project management, ensuring high success rates and predictability.
  • Ability to hold team members accountable for their contributions to project work.
  • Commitment to keeping all project stakeholders informed and engaged throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Fully remote position, with candidates required to reside in the US and be US citizens.
  • A college degree is preferred.
  • PMP certification is preferred.
  • Familiarity with security frameworks, particularly ISO, is preferred.
  • Experience with enterprise IT procurement is preferred.
