About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Certified Medical Assistant to join our team at Duke Primary Care in Sweetwater. As an integral member of our interdisciplinary healthcare team, you will provide direct patient care and support administrative duties to ensure the smooth operation of our clinic.

Responsibilities
  • Take medical histories and record vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients and preparing them for examinations and procedures.
  • Assist medical and nursing staff during examinations and procedures, collect and prepare laboratory specimens, and perform basic laboratory tests in the clinic.
  • Take electrocardiograms, remove sutures/staples, change sterile and non-sterile dressings, and promote patient/family understanding of educational content and their involvement in the plan of care.
  • Document patient records, dispose of contaminated supplies, process instruments, and perform high-level disinfection and sterilization of medical instruments.
  • Telephonate prescriptions to pharmacies, prepare and administer medications as directed by physicians, and authorize drug refills as needed.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Greet patients, answer telephones, schedule appointments, check out patients, and refer scheduling; arrange for hospital admissions and laboratory services, update and file patient medical records, and fill out insurance forms.
  • Handle billing, bookkeeping, including receiving copays and collections on account balances, correspondence, and ordering clinical and clerical supplies and forms.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) is strongly preferred.
  • High school or GED graduation is required.
  • Level I requires no experience, Level II requires at least 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting, and Level III requires at least 3 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.
