Job Summary

The Certified Medical Assistant will function as an integral member of our healthcare team, providing direct patient care and supporting administrative tasks. This role requires a strong understanding of medical procedures, patient care, and administrative duties.

Responsibilities
  • Take medical histories and record vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients and preparing them for examinations and procedures.
  • Assist medical and nursing staff during examinations and procedures, collect and prepare laboratory specimens, and perform basic laboratory tests in the clinic/office.
  • Take electrocardiograms, remove sutures/staples, change sterile and non-sterile dressings, promote patient/family understanding of educational content, and document in the patient record.
  • Dispose of contaminated supplies, process instruments, perform high-level disinfection and sterilization of medical instruments, telephone prescriptions to a pharmacy, prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician, and authorize drug refills as directed.
  • Perform other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by the physician.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Greet patients, answer telephones, schedule appointments, check out patients, and refer patients to other healthcare services.
  • Arrange for hospital admissions, laboratory services, and update and file patient medical records.
  • Fill out insurance forms, handle billing and bookkeeping, receive copays, and collect account balances.
  • Correspond with patients, families, and healthcare providers, and order clinical and clerical supplies and forms.
  • Perform other administrative duties as directed.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) is strongly preferred.
  • High school or GED graduation is required.
  • Level I: No experience required.
  • Level II: At least 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting is required.
  • Level III: At least 3 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA, or ARMA is required.
  • BLS certification is required.
Work Environment

The Certified Medical Assistant will work in a fast-paced healthcare environment, interacting with patients, families, and healthcare providers. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team setting.
