Automation and Controls Technician Position

Arclin, Inc. is on the lookout for an Automation Controls Technician to enhance our operational efficiency. The Automation Controls Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the seamless functioning of the plant's automation systems, including the DeltaV distributed control system and the industrial local area network. This position involves routine maintenance, calibration, and necessary replacements of automation instruments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute installation, programming, and upkeep of all plant instrumentation and control systems (DeltaV), including daily preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical instrumentation and control system issues effectively.
  • Conduct and document calibrations for all instruments as per established schedules, maintaining accurate records.
  • Ensure alignment of plant automation control systems with quality control systems to guarantee data integrity.
  • Oversee and audit all electrical controls contractor work, initiating site Management of Change (MOC) for relevant tasks.
  • Create and manage documentation related to control systems, including ladder logic and wiring diagrams.
  • Interpret and modify P&IDs, loop sheets, and electrical schematics.
  • Provide additional support for general plant equipment, including Variable Frequency Drives, PLCs, and other electronic devices.
  • Complete tasks assigned by the Plant Engineer or designated personnel.
  • Advise on necessary upgrades and modifications to instrumentation and PLCs, collaborating to schedule these activities.
  • Assist in engineering analyses for projects, covering preliminary and detailed design, project cost analysis, and life cycle cost analysis.
  • Plan and manage improvement projects related to electrical controls, with budgets under $10,000.
  • Maintain a comprehensive knowledge base of automation control systems across both batch and continuous processes.
  • Engage in MOCs, HAZOPs, PHAs, JHAs, and functional description reviews.
  • Actively contribute to the Plant Safety Culture, including participation in the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC).
  • Be available for on-call support for production issues arising from electrical or controls failures.
Qualifications:
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree focusing on electrical or controls systems is preferred; however, practical experience will also be considered.
  • Certifications such as CCST, Red Seal, or ICET are advantageous; completion of Arc Flash training will be required once in the role if not already completed.
  • Experience with Distributive Process Controls Systems (DeltaV) is essential; knowledge of Programmable Logic Control, HMI, and automation control systems is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with AB RS Logix 5000, Control Logix, Powerflex drives, and HMI/SCADA systems is a plus.
  • Understanding of process simulation software is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with industrial electrical systems, including switchgear and motor control systems.
  • Experience in installing, calibrating, configuring, and troubleshooting process instrumentation such as pressure, temperature, level, and flow is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in PCs, LANs, and computer hardware/software installation and support.
  • Knowledge of DC and AC drive systems is required.
  • Familiarity with quality control and ISO 9000 management systems is advantageous.
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while adhering to agreed-upon completion timelines.
  • Effective communication skills with all levels of plant staff and corporate engineering teams.
  • Capability to perform fieldwork, including wiring, component installation, and instrument calibrations, while adhering to safety protocols.
