WSP is currently seeking a
Lead Drainage and Stormwater Engineer for our Baltimore, MD office.

The ideal candidate will oversee the execution of various drainage and stormwater design initiatives, along with hydrologic assessments, and possess expertise in hydraulic (H&H) studies related to stormwater management, conveyance systems, resilient infrastructure, and flood mitigation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive business development efforts in Maryland, identify project opportunities, lead proposal activities, and nurture client relationships.
  • Deliver engineering services and manage projects/tasks related to drainage design, stormwater management, flood mitigation, and H&H modeling. Experience with local and state drainage and stormwater management design projects is preferred.
  • Guide junior staff in developing their design capabilities, particularly in the latest drainage and stormwater design practices relevant to Maryland and local regulations.
  • Coordinate complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Review and approve design plans, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Engage in permitting processes, public involvement, and interactions with regulatory bodies, subcontractors, and clients in a professional manner.
  • Supervise and monitor cross-functional teams in project execution, including budget management, tracking hours and expenses, and ensuring task completion.
  • Collaborate with professionals across various disciplines to deliver innovative solutions for clients.
  • Stay updated on the latest standards in drainage and stormwater management and water resources engineering techniques.
  • Make responsible and ethical decisions regarding company resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Water Resources Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Professional Engineer license is required; Maryland and District of Columbia P.E. licenses are preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant post-education experience in the A/E/C industry with a client-facing background in the water resources sector.
  • Familiarity with clients, opportunities, and competition in Maryland.
  • Proven success in strategic selling and the ability to convey complex technical information in a compelling manner.
  • Experience in water resources engineering, including hydraulic modeling of open-channel and closed conduit systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, provide senior-level input and evaluation, and serve as a technical leader.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles, practices, processes, and their application to permitting and project-related issues.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Stormwater Management, Drainage, Hydrology & Hydraulics Design, Watershed Studies, Floodplain Delineation, etc.
  • Experience in project and client development/relationship management.
  • Proficient in coordinating with regulatory agencies and understanding their requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, effectively conveying ideas to both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Demonstrated self-leadership with attention to detail, ability to multitask, and prioritize responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
  • Capacity to work independently while providing guidance and leadership to junior team members, adhering strictly to QA/QC standards.
  • Strong understanding and experience with surface water analysis, hydrologic methodologies/models, hydraulic models, and relevant software tools for project delivery.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply technical knowledge effectively.
  • Proven ability to coordinate and assertively direct subconsultants and others to ensure tasks are completed efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in the aforementioned disciplines.
  • Membership in professional societies and active involvement in industry and community initiatives are highly desirable.

Compensation:

Expected Salary:
$130,000 - $160,000


WSP USA provides this compensation range in good faith based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and specific geographic location.
