Royalty Compliance Auditor II

This position is responsible for performing field and desk audits of mid to major oil and gas companies to ensure compliance with New Mexico Statutes and State Land Office rules. The ideal candidate will have experience in accounting, auditing, finance, tax processing, or compliance, including working knowledge with computer software applications. The position requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct field and desk audits of oil and gas companies to ensure compliance with New Mexico Statutes and State Land Office rules.
- Address complicated issues related to royalty calculations and ensure accurate payment of royalties.
- Participate in special projects to enhance the audit program and promote royalty remitter knowledge.
- Guide, assist, and direct other team members in the application of procedures and provide training to other staff members and/or industry.
- Four (4) years of experience in Accounting, Auditing, Taxation, Collections, Finance, and/or Budgeting.
- Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required experience.
- Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
Work is performed primarily in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer to include working with computers, faxes, copiers and printers, and phone usage; with extended periods of sitting, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. 25% in-state and out of state travel is required.
