Position Summary:

If you seek a role that positively impacts the lives of community members, consider the position of After-School Specialist. This role is essential in our Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Services' Children's After-School team. The position is located in Leesburg, VA, and involves overseeing the County's After School Activities (CASA) program, which serves elementary school-aged children at numerous sites. Additionally, the specialist may assist with the County's Youth After School (YAS) program at various middle schools. After-School Specialists are responsible for utilizing their organizational and management expertise to plan and execute age-appropriate activities while supervising site staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff across multiple elementary or middle school locations.
  • Maintain comprehensive program documentation.
  • Facilitate effective communication with parents, patrons, site personnel, and team members.
  • Assess program needs, design engaging activities, and conduct program evaluations.
  • Deliver courteous and prompt customer service.
  • Manage the program budget and ensure appropriate use of financial resources.
  • Perform other essential duties related to the specific role and departmental assignment.

Work Schedule:

The position offers a flexible work schedule, typically from 10 AM to 6 PM. It is important to indicate relevant programmatic experience and prior supervisory experience in your application.

Minimum Qualifications:

An associate degree in a relevant field and two years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in recreation or a related field, along with two years of experience in managing and supervising children's recreational and instructional activities.

Job Requirements:

Candidates must undergo a criminal background check, nationwide fingerprint search, Child Protective Services (CPS) check, credit check, and DMV check. A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are necessary, with driving records subject to annual review. Individuals must obtain First Aid/CPR certifications within four months of hiring. Virginia State licensing mandates additional experience in supervising children during recreational or educational activities.
