Position Summary

Are you passionate about engaging with youth in a dynamic environment? Do you seek a role that positively impacts the lives of community members? We are currently seeking a dedicated After-School Specialist to join our team. This position involves working with the County's After School Activities (CASA) program, which serves elementary school-aged children across multiple locations. The specialist may also assist with the Youth After School (YAS) program at various middle schools. After-School Specialists are responsible for utilizing strong organizational and management skills to oversee the planning and execution of age-appropriate activities while supervising site staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff across multiple elementary or middle school locations.
  • Maintain accurate program documentation.
  • Ensure effective communication with parents, patrons, site personnel, and team members.
  • Assess program needs, design activities, and conduct program evaluations.
  • Provide prompt and courteous customer service.
  • Manage the program budget and ensure proper use of financial resources.
  • Perform other essential duties related to the specific role and departmental needs.

Work Schedule

The work schedule offers flexibility, typically ranging from 10 AM to 6 PM. It is important to indicate relevant programmatic experience and prior supervisory experience on your application.

Minimum Qualifications

An associate degree in a related field and two years of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in recreation or a related field, along with two years of experience in operating and supervising children's recreational and instructional activities.

Job Requirements

Candidates must undergo a criminal background check, Nationwide Fingerprint search, Child Protective Services (CPS) check, credit check, and DMV check. A valid driver's license and a good driving record are required. Individuals must obtain First Aid/CPR certifications within four months of hiring. Additional experience supervising children in recreational or educational settings is required by Virginia State licensing.
