Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Associate Director to join our team at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. As a key member of the Office of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships, you will play a crucial role in shaping the academic and professional development of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Director to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for scholar development in undergraduate research and fellowships.
  • Create and manage year-long coaching, instructional, and operational plans to connect students with undergraduate research opportunities and support their applications to nationally competitive awards.
  • Lead the design and assessment of instruction, coaching, and processes that support students in their pursuit of fellowships and research positions.
  • Develop and maintain programming to support the Vol Edge program and promote awareness of nationally competitive awards among students, faculty, and staff.
  • Provide guidance and support to students in drafting candidate materials, reviewing applications, and offering ongoing support throughout the application process.
  • Lead campus interview/nomination committees, scheduling campus interviews, and drafting endorsement/nomination materials as needed.
  • Maintain detailed records of student meetings and provide regular updates to the Director and other stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Master's degree at time of hire.
  • Significant relevant professional experience in an academic setting on a college/university campus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively challenge and support high-achieving students.
  • Knowledge of multiple fellowships applications processes and the ability to create appropriate internal deadlines/processes to meet student development goals.
  • Superior skill in written communication, teaching, and mentoring.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, remain organized, and composed in high-volume times of year.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree.
  • Five years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience conducting and presenting academic research, writing literary, journalistic, or scholarly publications, and/or successful grant applications.
  • Significant experience working with high-achieving college students and with faculty.
  • Significant supervisory experience.
