Position Title: Autism Day Program Assistant (PRN - Flexible Hours)

Service Area: Daytime Services (Childcare, Autism & Medical Day Programs)

Role Overview:

As a vital member of our Autism program, you will play a significant role in enhancing the lives of children aged 2-6 by promoting their health, skill acquisition, and retention within our Autism Day Program. Your responsibilities will include providing care and support for children with diverse functioning levels across the autism spectrum.

Collaboration:

In this role, you will work closely with occupational and speech therapists in a play-centered environment, assisting in achieving developmental objectives as outlined in each child's personalized care plan.

Compensation and Benefits:

This position offers flexible scheduling with no evening or weekend commitments. Staff members are eligible for a 403(b) retirement plan with an attractive company match, alongside tuition discounts at various universities. The starting pay for this role ranges from $14 to $15 per hour.

Work Schedule:

This is a part-time position, with hours available Monday through Friday between 7:30 AM and 5:30 PM, particularly during closing shifts (3 PM - 6 PM). There is an urgent need for support during the hours of 12 PM to 5:30 PM. Full-time and per diem opportunities may also be available.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist children in becoming as independent as possible and prepare them for school.
  • Collaborate effectively with nurses, therapists, and other program staff.
  • Implement aspects of the care plan to meet individual therapeutic goals.
  • Ensure a safe and consistent environment for care, learning, and play.
  • Follow shift change procedures to maintain communication and continuity of care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records.
  • Communicate professionally with children, families, licensed professionals, and the public.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, which may include:
    • Diapering and toilet training
    • Feeding
    • Utilizing communication systems (e.g., PECS) and other devices
    • Managing emotional responses and behaviors
    • Supporting the acquisition of pre-school skills such as cutting and turn-taking

Qualifications:

  • Preferred: Two-year degree in human services or education.
  • Preferred: Experience with children with special healthcare needs.
  • Must pass background checks and complete necessary certifications.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs and maintain mobility within the clinic.
  • Maintain composure in a dynamic environment with varying demands.
  • Effective communication skills in English (reading, writing, speaking).
  • This position may be subject to specific safety requirements.
