Overview:

A Geotechnical Engineer is needed to supervise a long-term remediation initiative at a significant energy facility. This role involves full-time engagement in a field office, focusing on a major, multi-year cleanup project. The site includes coal ash ponds that require careful management, particularly due to its proximity to a water source. The selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing contractors and making critical field decisions. Exceptional communication skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate effectively with diverse project teams and assist colleagues in achieving client objectives.
  • Recognize client requirements and cultivate robust client relationships.
  • Manage both financial and technical elements of project assignments.
  • Proactively communicate changes, challenges, and client requests.
  • Exhibit strong verbal and written communication abilities, including internal communications, client deliverables, and regulatory submissions.
  • Aid in identifying and articulating technical challenges and strategies for assessment, contribute to the formulation of technical solutions and scopes of work, and execute project tasks to fulfill technical, quality, budgetary, and scheduling criteria.
  • Possess experience in the development and execution of safety protocols. Comply with Site-Specific Health and Safety Plans. Participate in site safety briefings and audits as required.
  • Oversee subsurface exploration and testing activities (e.g., test borings, geoprobes, CPTs) to gather soil, bedrock, and groundwater samples, conduct field vane shear testing and soil classification, and collect additional relevant data for project design in accordance with applicable standards and guidelines.
  • Provide construction oversight and on-site engineering observation for both geotechnical and environmental projects.
  • Compile, analyze, manage, and report field, instrumentation, geological, and/or environmental data utilizing spreadsheets and other analytical tools.
  • Conduct and assess routine data collection, synthesis, management, and analysis following approved procedures relevant to their discipline.
  • Show a strong inclination and enthusiasm for coaching and mentoring others.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Must hold a degree in civil, environmental, or geotechnical engineering.
  • Experience working in the field, directly with contractors and stakeholders is essential.
Required Skills/Experience:
  • A minimum of a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. An M.S. degree in Geotechnical Engineering is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of relevant consulting experience, including on-site construction monitoring and familiarity with excavation, construction dewatering, temporary excavation support systems, coal combustion residuals, and slope stability assessments.
  • Knowledge of geotechnical instrumentation programs and associated ground movement studies, with experience in monitoring ground movements due to construction activities, developing threshold criteria, reviewing monitoring data, and communicating findings with contractors and clients.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • A positive attitude, strong work ethic, adaptability, and a commitment to seeing projects through to completion are essential.
  • Must have or be in the process of obtaining professional certification in their core discipline, such as EIT or PE.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office software, data management, and programming.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel to job sites and the office are necessary, along with a willingness to travel for temporary assignments.
  • OSHA 40-hr. HAZWOPER and OSHA 10-hr. Construction Site Safety training is preferred.
