Patient Care Assistant

The Patient Care Assistant is responsible for delivering direct care to patients and providing essential support services. This position entails assisting individuals with their daily personal care requirements while ensuring their comfort and safety. Key duties include preparing patients for meals, aiding with feeding, facilitating patient transfers, monitoring vital signs, and conducting range of motion exercises. The Patient Care Assistant also contributes significantly to maintaining a hygienic and secure environment for both patients and healthcare staff.

Key Responsibilities:
- Delivers routine personal care to patients in a timely, safe, and effective manner.
- Assists with bathing, grooming, dressing, and attending to other personal care needs. Prepares patients for meals and assists with feeding as necessary.
- Facilitates patient transfers to and from beds or chairs using appropriate techniques and equipment. Accurately measures and records vital signs, including temperature, pulse, and respiration.
- Performs range of motion exercises and assists patients in mobility, including walking and transportation using wheelchairs or stretchers. Undertakes other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Experience: No prior experience necessary.
- Licenses/Certifications: Certification as a Nursing Attendant in New York State.
- Ability to work in environments with varying levels of dust and noise.
- Physical capability to hear, speak, walk, stand, bend, and stretch.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and interpreting documents.
- Capacity to sit for extended periods and stand for long durations at patient bedsides or procedural areas.
- Strong communication skills with patients and colleagues.
- Knowledge of policies and procedures related to hazardous materials.
