Role Summary:

The Personnel Security Specialist is responsible for reviewing investigation requests for accuracy and completeness, processing e-QIP packets for federal and contractor personnel, and initiating background investigations. This role involves data entry, case file management, and communication with applicants to gather necessary information.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the administration of the FBI Security Program by overseeing security assessment investigations from initiation to completion.
  • Conduct and analyze interviews both internally and externally.
  • Handle investigations involving FBI applicants and others requiring security clearances.
  • Provide analysis and research on complex personnel security issues.
  • Prepare written reports and presentations utilizing critical thinking skills.
  • Inform supervisors of significant matters that may have broader implications.
  • Manage and update personnel security documentation files.
  • Ensure the security of program data and materials.
  • Process security clearance documentation in preparation for adjudication.
  • Summarize data and communicate with relevant parties to initiate investigations.
  • Guide the initiation of investigations, addressing leads in accordance with federal standards.
  • Coordinate with field offices for the submission of investigation information.
  • Review investigative reports for compliance with administrative requirements.
  • Identify inadequacies and recommend further investigation as needed.
  • Advise on the necessity of polygraph examinations based on data analysis.
  • Draft communications to FBI HQ Divisions and field offices to initiate investigations.
  • All determinations and communications are subject to review by the Government lead.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to obtain a Top Secret security clearance and pass a security polygraph exam.
  • Two years of experience in personnel security investigations or as an investigative analyst.
  • Experience with database checks and credit report interpretation.
  • Proficient in administrative support functions.
  • Strong analytical skills to review and assess investigative reports for security vulnerabilities.
  • Experience in developing Reports of Investigation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and internet research.
  • Familiarity with federal law enforcement and intelligence community IT systems.
  • Knowledge of commercial and federal database systems.
  • Experience in handling personnel security documentation.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Knowledge of federal standards for investigations and security protocols.
  • Bachelor's Degree with two years of relevant experience or an Associate's Degree with four years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of security-related investigative guidelines, including Federal Investigative Standards and Security Executive Agent Directives.
