Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Assembler - Mechanical Specialist to join our team at General Dynamics Land Systems. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for performing assembly and disassembly operations on major units, ensuring high-quality products are delivered to our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform assembly and disassembly operations on major units, whether heavy or light, on bench or floor.
  • Work with a variety of tools, including hand wrenches, impact wrenches, small grinders/sanders, power tools, torque wrenches, screwdrivers, ratchet wrenches, air tools, pry bars, drills, tap handles, positioning devices, and sledgehammers.
  • Utilize cleaning agents to remove oil, grease, and dirt from parts, ensuring a clean and safe working environment.
  • Load and unload structures from wagons and move through the department, maintaining a safe and efficient workflow.
  • May be required to obtain a license to operate a radio-controlled overhead crane, ensuring safe and efficient material handling.
  • Work in tight areas within vehicle structures, requiring flexibility and attention to detail.
  • Conduct pre- and post-operation safety checks of equipment, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
  • May be required to verify that you have followed written instructions, including operation sheets or quality assurance directives.

Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR (International Trafficking and Arms Regulations).
  • Must successfully complete the vetting process administered by the Department of Army Police for unescorted facility access.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Must successfully complete the pre-employment process, including a background check, medical exam, and drug screen.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain a radio-controlled overhead crane license.
  • Must be able to successfully complete the pre-employment process, including a drug screen and background check, and physical.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid state-issued driver's license.

Working Conditions & Environment:

  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and handling various parts up to 50 lbs.
  • Climbing ladders and stairs both into and onto vehicle structures.
  • Bending, kneeling, standing, stooping, crawling.
  • Potential for walking and standing on uneven surfaces.
  • Working in and around dust, fumes, oils, mists, lubricants, solvents, and in areas with a high noise volume.
  • Depending on departmental assignment, wearing a respirator may be required.
  • Using hand tools, including but not limited to sledge hammers, pry bars, wrenches, air/gas couplings.
  • Operating a radio-controlled crane for lifting and moving material.
  • Overtime and off-shift work may be required.
  • Wearing of required PPE (personal protective equipment) is mandatory.
