Qualifications:

  1. A valid and current Pennsylvania Instructional II Certificate.
  2. Master's Degree with a minimum of 5 years of successful experience in urban education preferred, but not mandatory.
  3. In-depth understanding of effective instructional practices and emerging educational methodologies.
  4. Comprehensive knowledge of content and teaching strategies for elementary subjects, particularly in mathematics and English Language Arts.
  5. Experience with diverse student populations, including but not limited to students with IEPs, English Learners, and historically underrepresented groups preferred, but not mandatory.
  6. Demonstrated ability to provide effective Tier I instruction.
  7. Experience in utilizing assessment data to inform instructional planning.
  8. Familiarity with successful classroom organization and management techniques.
  9. Ability to share effective instructional strategies with educators and administrators, along with strong interpersonal skills for coaching and feedback.
  10. Excellent organizational, strategic planning, and time management skills.
  11. Strong communication abilities.
  12. Any other qualifications as determined by the Board or Superintendent.

Summary
The Elementary Education Instructional Specialist plays a pivotal role in assisting educators with the implementation of research-driven instructional strategies across various subjects. This position involves direct collaboration with elementary school teachers, offering classroom demonstrations and providing both group and individualized coaching. The Specialist encourages teacher inquiry and professional growth, working alongside administrators and educators to align efforts with district objectives aimed at enhancing student success. Key responsibilities include leading data analysis sessions to evaluate formative and summative assessment outcomes, recommending and tracking intervention strategies, and improving teachers' capabilities to engage students and promote their ownership of learning. As a member of a professional coaching community, the Instructional Specialist also engages in continuous professional development and self-reflection to enhance their practice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrate research-based instructional methods and collaborate with teachers to identify approaches that effectively address the needs of all students, including those with Individualized Education Plans, English Learners, and historically marginalized groups.
  2. Observe instructional practices and provide constructive feedback to educators as they implement new strategies.
  3. Serve as a model for demonstration lessons, including videotaping for review.
  4. Facilitate ongoing professional development opportunities for teachers.
  5. Support the systematic design and enhancement of Tier I instruction.
  6. Assist educators in collaboratively analyzing student work and both formal and informal assessments.
  7. Help teachers integrate appropriate strategies, resources, and technology into their instructional practices.
  8. Collaborate at both the school and district levels on curriculum development and resource selection.
  9. Set measurable goals with teachers to guide their work, identify root causes, and monitor progress.
  10. Maintain a focus on equity and inclusion by recognizing and addressing inequitable outcomes, examining structural barriers, and fostering an inclusive environment.
  11. Build strong, trusting relationships with faculty, staff, and administration.
  12. Assist school leaders in developing the school's improvement plan with specific, measurable, and attainable goals for teacher and student performance.
  13. Regularly communicate and collaborate with the principal and Supervisors of Instruction.
  14. Actively participate in professional development for instructional coaches.
  15. Perform additional duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or the Executive Director of Learning and Teaching.
