Patient Access Representative

At Optum, we're committed to delivering exceptional care and connecting people with the resources they need to thrive. As a Patient Access Representative, you'll play a vital role in ensuring our patients receive the best possible experience from the moment they step into our facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Communicate effectively with patients and families to collect demographic and health information, verify insurance eligibility, and process registrations.
- Utilize our advanced computer systems to enter and verify patient data in real-time, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Gather necessary clinical information and process referrals, pre-certifications, and pre-authorizations according to insurance plan requirements.
- Verify insurance coverage, benefits, and create price estimates, reverifications as needed.
- Collect patient co-pays and conduct conversations on out-of-pocket financial obligations.
- Identify outstanding balances and attempt to collect amounts due.
- Collect data from patients and referring provider offices to confirm and create scheduled appointments prior to hospital discharge.
- Respond to patient inquiries related to routine and sensitive topics in a compassionate and respectful manner.
- Generate, review, and analyze patient data reports, following up on issues and inconsistencies as necessary.

Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 1+ years of customer service experience preferred.
- Ability to work our overnight shift (11pm-7am) with rotating weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1+ years of experience in scheduling and authorizations.
- Healthcare experience and clinical knowledge.
Soft Skills:
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong time-management and organizational skills.
- Ability to engage and build rapport with patients and colleagues.
Physical and Work Environment:
- Standing for long periods while using a workstation and phone/headset.
