Position Overview

The New Orleans College Prep is seeking a dedicated Behavioral Specialist for our high school. This role is essential in fostering a secure and effective atmosphere for students who require temporary removal from the classroom. The specialist will collaborate with educators to cultivate a positive school culture, ensuring that students develop both the academic capabilities and character traits necessary for success in higher education and life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and maintain constructive relationships with students, families, and faculty.
  • Effectively de-escalate challenging situations and manage personal stress.
  • Lead and engage large groups of students in productive activities.
  • Bridge the gap between home and school through outreach initiatives.
  • Design and implement processes for student referrals and support.
  • Document all student interactions and behavior reports accurately.
  • Oversee the organization and administration of in-school suspension (ISS) procedures.
  • Ensure that students remain focused and productive during ISS sessions.
  • Collaborate with the Behavior Team to create a nurturing environment conducive to student growth.
  • Communicate essential information regarding student behavior and interventions to staff.
  • Enforce school policies and uphold uniform standards.
  • Participate in behavioral meetings and provide feedback on student progress.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by school leadership.

  • Strong conflict resolution and restorative practice skills.
  • Excellent written communication abilities.
  • Proven follow-up skills and commitment to responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently on multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children in underserved communities.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Solutions-focused mindset with a passion for improving educational systems.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm and high expectations for student achievement.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to invest time and effort into responsibilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Spanish language proficiency is preferred.
