Job Overview

The City of Branson is looking for a committed professional to fill the role of Fire Division Chief of Technical Services. This position is essential for ensuring fire safety, enhancing community education, and implementing risk reduction strategies.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Fire Division Chief of Technical Services is responsible for managing critical technical operations within the fire department. This includes overseeing public fire education initiatives, community risk-reduction programs, plan evaluations, fire investigations, and determining the origin and cause of fires. The role also involves conducting inspections and managing permits for commercial construction, as well as performing fire and life safety inspections, emergency medical services, and fire investigations. This position may act as the incident commander during significant emergencies, including fires, medical emergencies, rescues, and hazardous materials incidents. The Chief will directly supervise personnel in the technical services division and assist in the preparation and management of the technical services budget. This mid-management role reports to the Assistant Fire Chief.

WORK HOURS: Standard hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with occasional after-hours work required.

WORK LOCATION: The role requires on-site work within the City of Branson.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND TRAINING: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Fire Science, Fire Administration, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience. A minimum of six years of relevant experience may substitute for formal education as determined by the Department Director. At least five years of experience in a municipal fire department or fire protection district is required, with a minimum of two years in a supervisory capacity. Certifications in CPR and AED are mandatory, along with Emergency Medical Technician or EMT-Paramedic certification. Current certifications from the Missouri Division of Fire Safety or IFSAC in NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, & 800, Incident Command System, Firefighter II, Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector I, and Fire Investigator are also required. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of some certifications.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND TRAINING: Executive Fire Officer certification is preferred.

MISCELLANEOUS REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be at least 18 years old, possess a valid driver's license, and be insurable under the City of Branson's vehicle coverage. Vision must be correctable to 20/40, and candidates must pass the Ishihara color vision test and meet established hearing standards as per NFPA 1582. Compliance with the City of Branson's Employee Appearance at Work policy regarding tattoos and body modifications is required. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to the department's objectives and collaborate effectively with City leadership. A high degree of integrity, strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently are essential. Excellent customer service skills are necessary for interacting with both internal and external stakeholders. Candidates must adhere to safety standards and successfully pass drug and alcohol screenings, background investigations, and post-offer employment tests.
