Job Overview

Position Title: Marine Service Technician

Employment Type: Full-Time, Year-Round

Department: Service Department

Reporting To: Service Director/Manager

Role Summary:

The Marine Service Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of various types of boats within the Service Department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct preventative maintenance and repairs on a range of marine engines including Volvo, Mercruiser, and Mercury outboards.
  • Safely operate equipment on-site, such as tractors and vehicles.
  • Maintain technician certifications from Mercury and/or Volvo while staying informed on the latest industry advancements.
  • Test marine engines to ensure optimal performance.
  • Keep detailed and accurate service records.
  • Evaluate boat functions and perform operational assessments.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned by the Service Manager or Marina Partner.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

Qualifications: To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill each responsibility effectively. The following qualifications are essential:

  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions.
  • Adherence to all safety protocols, including chemical handling and use of Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Commitment to maintaining quality standards and adapting to evolving processes.
  • Strong teamwork capabilities.

Organizational Skills: Must possess the ability to stay organized, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

Adaptability: Willingness to quickly shift priorities and embrace new directions.

Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to address issues involving multiple concrete variables in standardized situations.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education: A minimum of four (4) years of high school education or GED, along with technical training certification.

Experience: Previous experience in the marine service industry and certification from Mercury and/or Volvo is required.

Physical Requirements: The role demands the ability to stand, walk, and use hands for extended periods. Regular lifting of up to 50 pounds is necessary, along with the ability to work in various outdoor conditions.

Additional Skills: The capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment, prioritize effectively, and maintain a strong focus on customer satisfaction is essential.
