Position Summary:

The Lead Vehicle Performance Engineer plays a crucial role in evaluating vehicle performance and safety through rigorous testing methodologies.

Key Responsibilities:

Vehicle Evaluation:

  • Conducts comprehensive track evaluations to measure vehicle performance, including precision driving tasks and the utilization of specialized testing apparatus such as steering and braking robots.
  • Operates vehicles across various production and development phases while adhering to stringent speed and positioning criteria.
  • Performs checks and troubleshooting on instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
  • Possesses a thorough understanding of established testing protocols and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with testing standards and maintains the integrity of test outcomes.

Data Interpretation:

  • Collects and analyzes data on vehicle dynamics, including acceleration, braking, cornering, and overall stability.
  • Identifies opportunities for enhancement and ensures compliance with safety and performance benchmarks through detailed data analysis.

Documentation:

  • Records test findings and prepares comprehensive reports for client review and further development.
  • Communicates technical information clearly and effectively to stakeholders.

Team Collaboration:

  • Engages with clients and collaborates with internal teams to ensure alignment on testing objectives.
  • Coordinates with supervisors regarding procedural inquiries or discrepancies in test results.

Equipment Management:

  • Operates and maintains a variety of testing equipment, including robotic vehicle controllers and computer-guided targets.
  • May contribute to the design and implementation of specialized testing tools.

Safety Assurance:

  • Guarantees that all testing activities adhere to industry safety regulations and standards.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline, coupled with 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient understanding of ADAS testing methodologies and equipment, including AB Dynamics systems.
  • Ability to interpret high-level testing requirements effectively.
  • Maintains confidentiality of client information.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting interconnected mechanical, electronic, and guidance systems.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance tasks such as jump-starting and tire changes.
  • Familiarity with principles of physics, electronics, dynamics, and mechanical design, as well as data protocols like CAN and Ethernet.
  • Experience with MATLAB or similar programming languages.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.

Physical Requirements:

Must be capable of performing physical tasks such as walking, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds. This role demands high energy and adaptability in a dynamic environment.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods, up to 10 hours daily.
  • Visual acuity necessary for close and distance vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
