Job Summary

The Defense Health Agency is seeking a highly skilled Optometrist (Clinical) to join our team as a Clinical Eye Care Specialist. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide comprehensive eye care services to our patients, including examinations, diagnoses, and treatment of various eye and visual disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Comprehensive Eye Care Services
    • Examine patients to diagnose and treat various eye and visual disorders, including refractive errors, cataracts, glaucoma, and other ocular diseases.
    • Prescribe and fit contact lenses, glasses, and other vision correction devices as needed.
    • Perform routine eye exams, including visual acuity tests, refractions, and ocular motility assessments.
  • Diagnose and Treat Eye Disorders
    • Diagnose and treat various eye disorders, including conjunctivitis, blepharitis, and other ocular surface diseases.
    • Prescribe and administer medications as needed to treat eye disorders.
  • Provide Patient Education and Counseling
    • Provide patients with education and counseling on eye care, including proper eye hygiene, nutrition, and lifestyle habits.
    • Answer patient questions and address concerns regarding eye care and treatment.
  • Collaborate with Other Healthcare Professionals
    • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including ophthalmologists, primary care physicians, and other specialists, to provide comprehensive patient care.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement treatment plans for patients with complex eye conditions.
Requirements
  • Education
    • Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited optometry program.
  • Experience
    • At least one year of experience as an optometrist, preferably in a clinical setting.
  • Licensure
    • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice optometry in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Certifications
    • Board certification in optometry, such as the American Board of Optometry (ABO) certification.
Working Conditions

The Optometrist (Clinical) will work in a clinical setting, providing eye care services to patients. The work environment will be fast-paced and dynamic, requiring the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
