Position Overview

About the Role: This role is responsible for delivering comprehensive eye care and professional optometric services to eligible military and civilian personnel.

This is a Direct Hire Opportunity

This position has a mandatory educational requirement. Submission of transcripts is required.

License/Certification: A relevant job-related license or certification is necessary. A copy of your license or certification must be submitted.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct examinations, diagnose, manage, and treat a wide range of visual disorders and ocular diseases.
  • Perform all necessary assessments related to the eye component of various physical examinations.
  • Oversee the upkeep of ophthalmic equipment and instruments.
  • Actively participate in the Optometry Quality Improvement Program.
  • Diagnose and address any visual irregularities and specific pathological conditions of the ocular adnexa and the eye.
  • Provide consultative eye and vision services to medical staff and other stakeholders as required.
Conditions of Employment
  • Appointment may be contingent upon a suitability or fitness assessment, based on a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is mandatory.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position is classified as a Testing Designated Position, subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Immunization screening is necessary, with Hepatitis B vaccination required for positions involving direct patient contact.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross.
  • Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential, requiring timely reporting for work during severe weather conditions.
  • Position is classified as Mission Essential, necessitating reporting to work during contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather, or other emergencies.
Qualifications

Eligibility: U.S. Citizens

To qualify, candidates must meet the educational and/or experience criteria outlined below. Experience includes both paid and unpaid work, including volunteer service through National Service programs and other organizations.

Basic Requirements for Clinical Optometrist:

Degree: A Doctor of Optometry degree from an accredited educational program recognized by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE).

Licensure: Candidates must have successfully passed the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NEBO) examinations and hold a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice optometry in a U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.

Experience: One year of professional experience as an optometrist, including examining and treating patients with visual disorders and/or diseases.

OR

Residency: Completion of a one-year residency program in an accredited institution.
