Position Overview

About the Role: This role involves delivering essential eye care and professional optometric services to eligible military and civilian individuals.

This is a Direct Hire Opportunity

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive examinations, diagnose, manage, and treat a wide array of visual disorders and ocular diseases.
  • Perform and evaluate all necessary assessments related to the ocular component of various physical examinations.
  • Oversee the upkeep of ophthalmic equipment and instruments.
  • Actively participate in the Optometry Quality Improvement Program.
  • Diagnose and address any visual irregularities and specific pathological conditions affecting the ocular adnexa and the eye.
  • Offer eye and vision consultative services to medical personnel and others as required.

  • A pre-placement medical examination is necessary.
  • Immunization screening is essential. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient interaction.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross.
  • Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential, requiring timely reporting for work during severe weather conditions.
  • Position is designated as Mission Essential, necessitating reporting to work during contingency operations, natural disasters, or other emergencies.
Qualifications

To qualify, candidates must meet the educational and/or experience criteria outlined below. Experience includes both paid and unpaid work, including volunteer activities through National Service programs and other organizations.

Basic Requirements for Clinical Optometrist:

Degree: A Doctor of Optometry degree from an accredited educational program recognized by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE).

Licensure: Candidates must have passed the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NEBO) examinations and hold a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice optometry in a U.S. jurisdiction.

Experience: One year of professional experience as an optometrist, including examining and treating patients with visual disorders and/or diseases.

OR

Residency: Completion of a one-year residency program in an accredited institution.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If using foreign education to meet qualification requirements, candidates must provide evaluation credentials from a recognized organization that confirms equivalency to U.S. education standards.
