The Behavioral Support Specialist plays a crucial role in coordinating behavioral services for individuals receiving support. This position involves close collaboration with the individual and their support network to assess specific behavioral challenges and provide constructive recommendations. The specialist will develop positive strategies through comprehensive documentation and direct engagement, aimed at facilitating behavior modification and fostering new skills that enhance the individual's overall quality of life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the implementation of Behavior Support Plans, Medication Monitoring Plans, and Behavior Guidelines.
  • Provide direct supervision and consultation to ensure effective execution of behavioral strategies.
  • Support various programs as assigned, adapting approaches to meet diverse needs.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree in a relevant clinical or treatment field such as psychology, social work, or school psychology, or possess a valid NYS license in Mental Health Counseling or National Board certification in behavior analysis (BCBA).
  • Preferred experience of 2-3 years working with adults who have intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Experience in assessment methodologies and the development of behavior support plans is advantageous.

Licensure and Certification

  • Must hold a valid NYS License and have reliable transportation for site visits.
  • Ability to achieve SCIP-R Certification and fulfill all related responsibilities.
  • Must maintain certification as a SCIP-R instructor, providing agency-wide training as needed.
