Job Summary

The Elkhart Public Library is seeking a skilled and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Circulation Clerk. In this role, you will be responsible for providing exceptional service to patrons, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring the smooth operation of our circulation desk.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide excellent customer service to patrons, responding to their inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of patron accounts, circulation transactions, and other relevant data.
  • Process financial transactions, handle cash, and operate a point-of-sale system.
  • Perform opening and closing tasks, including setting up and securing the circulation desk and surrounding areas.
  • Assist with collection development, selecting materials and performing collection maintenance as assigned.
  • Provide support to other library staff members as needed, including answering phone calls and responding to emails.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; prior library experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic clerical, computer, and mathematical skills, with the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent local travel and occasional long-distance travel.
Working Conditions

This is a part-time position, with a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends. The successful candidate will be required to work in a library setting, with frequent interaction with patrons and staff.
