The Elkhart Public Library is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented individual to fill the role of Clerk I. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service, maintaining patron accounts, and performing various administrative tasks.
Key Responsibilities- Provide welcoming and helpful service to patrons at the circulation desk and other public areas of the library.
- Manage patron accounts, including issuing library cards and maintaining registrations.
- Circulate materials, including checking in and out, pulling and routing holds, and performing other related tasks.
- Handle financial transactions at the circulation desk and public copiers.
- Perform opening and closing tasks as assigned.
- Select materials and/or perform collection maintenance as assigned, with oversight from the appropriate collection manager(s) and approval of the department head.
- Provide customer service and respond to patron inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior library experience preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic clerical, computer, and mathematical skills.
The Clerk I will work in a fast-paced library environment, interacting with patrons and staff on a regular basis. The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a focus on providing exceptional customer service.
