Position Summary

The Library Circulation Assistant plays a vital role in supporting library patrons by managing library card registrations and facilitating the circulation of materials. This position is essential in fostering a welcoming atmosphere for all visitors to the library.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and update patron accounts efficiently.
  • Process library materials by checking them in and out, and managing holds.
  • Handle financial transactions at the circulation desk and for public equipment.
  • Execute opening and closing procedures as designated.
  • Assist in the selection and maintenance of library collections under supervision.
  • Provide exemplary customer service at the Circulation Desk and other public service points.
  • Perform various administrative and clerical tasks as instructed.
Work Environment
  • Part-time schedule, including potential evening and weekend shifts.
  • Minimal travel may be required.
Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • Previous experience in a library setting is preferred.
Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact courteously with patrons and colleagues.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new situations.
  • Basic proficiency in clerical tasks, computer usage, and mathematical operations.
  • Familiarity with standard office equipment.
  • Capability to follow written and verbal instructions effectively.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
Language Proficiency
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret written instructions and correspondence.
  • Proficient in drafting routine reports and business communications.
  • Effective in presenting information and responding to inquiries from library staff and the public.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Capacity to stand for extended periods.
  • Occasional lifting or moving of items up to 40 pounds.
