Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Building Services Assistant to join our team at Preformed Line Products. This role will assist with various tasks related to building services, shipping, and receiving, as well as provide administrative support to the Building Services Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clerical assistance to the Building Services Manager, including documentation and file management.
  • Coordinate outside contractual maintenance services with the Building Services Manager.
  • Assist with select building maintenance tasks as directed by the Building Services Manager.
  • Maintain a file on receiving reports and returns, and shipping documentation.
  • Review, post, and update all incoming materials on receiving reports, and verify proper documents for Purchasing and Accounting.
  • Unload all trucks for incoming materials, by hand or by lift truck.
  • Open all incoming packages for packing slips and identification of materials, quantities, etc.
  • Direct or deliver incoming packages to individuals in the building, including day-to-day mailroom responsibilities.
  • Handle claims regarding damages on incoming freight, instructed by the Purchasing Department.
  • Contact vendors for verification of shipments or pickups, track down PLP individuals on items that have been picked up at the vendor, and track down proper documents.
  • Put together and close out purchase orders on all indirect items and services.
  • Assist all departments in tracing shipments and checking overdue orders for indirect items.
  • Oversee and maintain the recycling program, including oil, scrap, and waste pickup.
  • Set up conference rooms and mezzanine for business meetings and lunches.
  • Be trained for Certified HAZMAT handling and documentation regulations.
  • Handle all shipping responsibilities for product going out of the facility, including proper packaging, paperwork, and labeling.
  • Assist with additional items incidental to the function of the maintenance operations.
  • Assist with snow removal on property.
Requirements
  • High school diploma, with capable skills in mathematics, reading, and writing, and some specialized schooling.
  • Minimum of two years of experience with industrial shipping and receiving procedures.
  • Experience with mechanical laboratory environment preferred.
  • Ability to use a computer and applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Computer experience with hands-on knowledge of software packages, including IFS, spreadsheets, and word processing.
  • Must possess good hands-on mechanical skills involving the use of select machine-shop equipment, hand tools, and lab equipment.
  • Good organizational skills.
