Job Title: Field Inspector - Building Diagnostics

Sol design + consulting is seeking a skilled Field Inspector to join our team. As a Field Inspector, you will be responsible for conducting on-site building performance testing and inspections to ensure compliance with company standards and industry regulations.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform on-site building performance testing and inspections to identify energy efficiency opportunities and ensure compliance with company standards and industry regulations.
  • Conduct energy efficiency tests, including air infiltration, HVAC duct tightness, ventilation airflow rates, combustion efficiency and safety, building pressures, and other relevant tests.
  • Verify energy/green building features using office-provided procedures, checklists, and tools.
  • Document all findings via clear photos and reports, ensuring meticulous attention to completeness and accuracy.
  • Read construction drawings and specifications to verify/coordinate energy/green building features.
  • Travel 3-4 days per week within a 100-mile radius, with occasional longer-distance travel.
  • Ensure appropriate materials and equipment are brought to the job site to complete home performance testing.
  • Evaluate own work for errors, omissions, and workmanship problems.
  • Maintain company-issued equipment daily and report any issues.
  • Record material and time used on each job and report bi-weekly.
  • Follow all safety rules set forth by the company and governmental regulatory agencies, and report any hazardous conditions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet Testing & Verification needs of the office.
Qualifications:
  • Degree in Building Science or equivalent experience in construction trade, such as HVAC, electrical, insulation, or carpentry.
  • 1-3 years or more of experience in construction or energy rating is preferred.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems and appliances is preferred.
  • Knowledge of framing and insulation installation is preferred.
  • Experience operating test equipment, such as blower doors, thermal imaging cameras, CO meters, duct blasters, etc.
  • Aptitude for interpreting architectural drawings and construction specifications.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical and program concepts in written and verbal form to builders.
  • Computer software fluency, including Microsoft Excel and Word, online project workflow tools, and smartphone apps for field verification.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Basic math skills, including geometry.
  • Good analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to lift in excess of 75 lbs., climb ladders, and follow safety protocols.
  • Ability to work in small spaces, such as attics and crawl spaces.
  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, and current automobile insurance.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Passion for buildings and energy efficiency.
