Job Summary:

The Volunteer Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating patient care volunteers to meet patient and family needs. This role requires effective communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills to ensure seamless volunteer interactions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Volunteer Program Manager to identify and recruit patient care volunteers.
  • Arrange volunteer placements for patients, ensuring activities align with the plan of care and volunteer interactions are documented.
  • Communicate with patients and families as needed, developing and updating relevant documents.
  • Maintain accurate volunteer records in the electronic medical record.
  • Review volunteer documentation for clarity and confidentiality, reinforcing adherence to State and Federal regulations.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to optimize volunteer services.
  • Evaluate volunteer effectiveness, quantity, and quality, consulting with Service Operations team members to ensure appropriate utilization.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team conferences to identify and collaborate volunteer opportunities.
  • Provide avenues for volunteer support, communication, and recognition through various channels.
  • Actively participate in meetings to achieve desired outcomes, projecting future needs and developing plans to meet them.
  • Screen, orient, train, supervise, evaluate, and support volunteers, ensuring appropriate placement.
  • Develop and implement educational programs for volunteers annually, assisting with competency development.
  • Utilize allocated resources effectively to meet business outcomes.
  • Adjust to changing workloads and schedules based on departmental and organizational priorities.
  • Act as a liaison between NorthStar Care Community, community, and other hospice programs.
  • Uphold organizational policies, protocols, and regulatory requirements, adhering to the C.A.R.E. Model of Service.
Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Two to five years' work experience with increasing responsibility required.
  • Previous experience in training, coordinating, and scheduling paid or unpaid staff preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in internal and external relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience in public speaking.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community resources related to community outreach and volunteer services.
  • Ability to work independently while functioning as part of a cooperative team.
  • Ability to use technology required by NorthStar Care Community.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgment, effective organizational, prioritization, and follow-through skills, attention to detail, tact, dependability, emotional intelligence, and ability to promote positive relationships.
  • Physical demands include vision, effective speech and hearing, repetitive motion, traveling, driving, standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, and stretching, with the ability to lift up to 45 pounds unassisted.
  • Proof of current tuberculin testing required; patient contact will not be allowed until clearance is documented.
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States required.
