Guest Nutrition Services Truck Driver

This is a unique opportunity to join the Federal Way Public Schools team as a Food Service Delivery Specialist. As a key member of our Nutrition Services team, you will be responsible for delivering meals and food to schools and sites as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Load and deliver food transport units to schools or support sites on established time schedules
- Operate truck lift gates and dock lifts, ensuring safe and efficient delivery of food and supplies
- Verify school counts and ensure orders are complete, maintaining accurate records and reports
- Comply with recording periodic time and temperature reports, ensuring food safety and quality
- Pick up carts and other items from school kitchens and offices, returning them to the Central Kitchen
- Pick up supplies from warehouses or other locations, as required, maintaining a clean and organized vehicle
- Fuel and inspect the food service truck daily, ensuring it is in good working condition and meets safety standards
- Follow safety precautions when securing food-transporting units in the truck to avoid accidents
- Promptly prepare work orders for mechanical needs or problems with the food service vehicle or its operating systems, notifying the Transportation and Nutrition Services Office Manager
- Practice effective safety and security within individual work routines, maintaining a safe and healthy work environment
- Assist with warehouse functions, receiving food and supplies, offloading vendor delivery trucks, and moving product into freezers, refrigerators, or dry storage as needed
- Chain up the truck in inclement weather, ensuring safe travel and delivery
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Washington State Driver's License with Class B CDL and air brake endorsement
- Operate a standard transmission vehicle
- Clean 5-year driving abstract, with no convictions for DUI, reckless driving, negligent driving, or hit and run
- Consistent attendance and positive evaluations
- Five (5) years' experience truck driving
- One (1) year of experience in foodservice operations
- Food Handler's license
- Forklift certification
- School board policies and procedures
- Rules and Laws of the road
- State of Washington and King County Department of Health Food Code
- Basic computer applications
- Ability to operate truck lift gates and dock lifts over 3,000lbs
- Maintain clean truck and personal attire per department protocol
- Practice ethical and professional standards of conduct, including confidentiality
- Relate effectively with parents, staff, students, and the public in a multicultural and multiracial community
- Use a two-way radio
- Organize and establish priorities to complete job responsibilities to meet deadlines
- Organize and perform job responsibilities efficiently and independently without close supervision and able to pay strict attention to detail
- Maintain consistent attendance and positive evaluations
- Speak, read, and follow written or verbal communications
- Practice effective safety and security within individual work routines
- Work collaboratively with District staff and promote teamwork with co-workers
- Meet job responsibilities and be willing to continue professional growth
This position requires working in low-temperature environments, such as large warehouse freezers and refrigerators, reach-in or roll-in freezers and refrigerators. Work with food and/or liquids that are frozen or very hot. Drivers are exposed to inclement weather, extreme heat and cold, traffic noise, and possible exposure to gasoline and diesel fumes. The employee is required to maneuver themselves, carts, and food/supplies within constrained kitchen environments with heavy equipment, tables, and carts. Drivers must concentrate on safely operating the vehicle under all weather and road conditions. Work is done on an elevated work station, such as a lift gate. Expect to deal with occasional exposure to angry, frustrated, or aggressive individuals.
Work ScheduleThis position typically works Monday through Friday, on school days, with some summer opportunities. Shifts may range from fifteen (15) minutes to seven (7) hours. Work schedules typically involve daytime activities surrounding meal operations on all days that school is in session. May work several days prior to and after the school year or in summer on occasional days when single schools are in session or offering summer programs.
