Job Summary

The Certified Ophthalmic Assistant II plays a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting the ophthalmology team at UTHealth Houston.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare exam rooms for patients, maintaining instruments and equipment to ensure a sterile environment.
  • Assist patients in preparing for physician exams, performing testing as needed, and ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Collaborate with ophthalmologists to plan and coordinate patient care, including procedures and diagnostic testing.
  • Maintain the operating room according to sterile technique, scrubbing, gowning, and gloving procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the ophthalmology team.
Requirements
  • Current Ophthalmic Assistant Certification (COA, COT, or COMT) or CPR Certification.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of clinical experience in ophthalmology, or completion of an accredited program in ophthalmology.
