Job Title: Senior Electrical Engineer

We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, documenting, programming, implementing, testing, repairing, and supporting automation processes and equipment for product development, external projects, and internal initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review specifications, interpret vendor cut sheets and product drawings, or other related documentation to determine the best overall electrical and controls solutions to meet or exceed requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies, and safety procedures.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and controls design teams on development projects throughout the entire product development cycle from initial concept through completion.
  • Develop overall electrical and controls architecture for complex assemblies and special process systems incorporating servo driven, VFD, and pneumatic components.
  • Integrate instrumentation and lab equipment into automated systems to provide accurate measurements and test results.
  • Design control panels using AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical, that include wiring schematics, panel layouts, and field wiring charts. Maintain accuracy and currency of all drawings and schematic documentation.
  • Make technical computations and calculations involving the application of electrical engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
  • Support the mechanical engineering team to ensure synergistic conformance between mechanical and electrical control systems.
  • Research and specify robust and cost-effective purchased components and subsystems to meet system design requirements. Work with the assembly team to identify and debug electrical and electro-mechanical system issues.
  • Provide project scope, cost, and schedule information related to electrical and controls design tasks to project managers and stakeholders.
  • Provide vendor information and technical specifications to support procurement activities for various projects.
  • Research and scout technologies and best practices to keep the product current and competitive in the controls space.
  • Recommend and implement initiatives to reduce cost, increase efficiency, and improve the product to executives, engineers, and project managers. Produce relevant design and implementation documentation.
  • Produce post-turnover support documentation.
Requirements:
  • 5 - 10 years industry experience and at least a Bachelor's or Master's of Science in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or relevant experience.
  • Experience with the design and integration of control systems for custom automated machinery.
  • Experience with the design, integration, and deployment of software meant to control hardware.
  • Experience with the design, integration, and deployment of high voltage devices.
  • Industrial machinery and automation process experience.
  • Experience with the design, troubleshooting, and respective code requirements of various industrial control and safety systems.
  • Electrical control panel design and layout.
  • Understanding of proper control panel design, product selection, SCCR calculations, testing and installation practices.
  • Can demonstrate an understanding of 3-phase power systems, transformers, protection and NEC/NFPA code principles.
  • Knowledge of Beckhoff TwinCAT suite of automation, programming tools, and components for use in industrial control systems.
  • Familiar with power generation equipment.
  • Proficiency selecting appropriate circuit protectors, wire and cable, sensors, safety hardware, PLC hardware, remote I/O, VFD, motor starters, and key electrical control components.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with automated systems to ensure optimal performance.
Preferred Attributes:
  • Knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, Servo Controls, Inverters, Power Electronics, and VFDs.
  • Ability to creatively solve problems with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to document controls hardware and controls software design.
  • Ability to document electrical drawings of components using AutoCAD electrical.
  • Ability to calculate loads for a complex system of sensors for power supply specification.
  • Ability to ensure EMF generated for high voltage components doesn't interfere with low voltage components.
