Function:
The Director of Development and Planned Giving is responsible for assisting in the implementation of a comprehensive annual giving, corporate giving, major gift and deferred giving program in support of the mission and vision of Charleston Southern University.
Works collaboratively with the President's office, college deans and development staff to meet the fund-raising needs of the University.
The performance of the duties outlined below must be carried out within the mission of CSU and to actively demonstrate an attitude of willing service and teamwork.
Development Initiatives (90%):
Primarily focuses on leadership-level giving and participates in comprehensive fundraising efforts for the University working with the President's office, deans of assigned colleges, faculty, athletic department and marketing department members regarding campaigns, annual fund activities, major giving, donor recognition and stewardship.
Develops comprehensive planned giving program, including marketing, materials, stewardship, and serves as the primary contact regarding planned gifts
Keeps abreast of current best practices in the Development profession and evaluates new and emerging ideas for potential implementation at CSU.
General Duties (10%):
Creates an annual work plan that includes relationship management strategies, travel approaches/accomplishments, gift closing tactics, communications and events.
Completes regular entries and call reports within the Raiser's Edge database system concerning donor prospect contacts.
Attends internal and external functions (including early morning, evening and weekend events) and interacts with potential donors in the Tri-county metropolitan region and beyond.
Attends Development staff meetings.
Enhances professional growth and development and keeps informed of current trends and practices in the areas of development, major gift solicitation and changes within the business community by participation in continuing education courses, professional organizations, seminars and workshops, reading current literature and maintaining professional contacts in the community.
Responsible for the implementation of donor relation events.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required. Must have excellent written, communication and relationship-building skills. Must be able and willing to travel and attend evening and weekend events. Excellent communication, organizational, and computer skills. Ability to work collegially with University administration, deans, faculty, staff, alumni and community members
