Reporting To: Program Manager – Child Welfare

FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary: $48,000 annually

Bonus: $500 upon successful completion of the Child Welfare Academy

Job Summary:
This role is dedicated to providing both Intake and Ongoing social casework services to families experiencing or suspected of child abuse or neglect, as well as youth in conflict. Responsibilities encompass comprehensive assessments, crisis intervention, resource mobilization, and referrals concerning child protection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform intake assessments for cases of alleged physical abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect; determine the necessity of placing children outside their home; oversee child placements and coordinate parent-child visits; advise on the return of children to their homes.
  • Evaluate service needs; provide crisis intervention and develop tailored care plans for children and families. Monitor client progress and adjust case plans as necessary.
  • Conduct monthly in-person visits with children and their parents.
  • Facilitate Family Engagement meetings to discuss cases and create family service plans.
  • Collaborate with community resources such as law enforcement, behavioral health, and medical personnel to gather information, coordinate services, and ensure optimal support for families.
  • Participate in an On-Call rotation for after-hours coverage approximately one week per month.
  • Compile background information for court hearings, prepare court reports for judicial reviews, and summarize findings for appropriate placements.
  • Attend court hearings and liaise with lawyers, children, parents, witnesses, and other relevant parties.
  • Engage in staffing meetings with educational institutions, mental health providers, and other professionals involved in family services.
  • Act as a resource for information and referrals to the public.
  • Complete various ancillary tasks including data entry, maintaining client records, and fulfilling reporting requirements.
  • Make critical decisions regarding complex case situations in consultation with a supervisor. Develop proficiency in applying various casework techniques and methodologies.
  • Work is subject to regular review for compliance with procedures, methods, and accuracy through staffing and supervisory evaluations.
  • Work schedule is determined by the supervisor and the specific program area.
  • Work independently or collaboratively as required.
  • Effective communication skills (both verbal and written) in English are essential.

Qualifications:
Knowledge:

  • Understanding of social casework practices related to child protection.
  • Familiarity with child development, attachment theories, and appropriate parenting practices.
  • Awareness of legal documents and processes.
  • Knowledge of privacy laws and child protection statutes.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) skills are preferred but not mandatory.
Skills:
  • Understanding of mediation and family engagement processes.
  • Experience in accessing community resources for client assistance.
  • Cultural competency regarding multi-cultural issues.
  • Empathy and recognition of domestic violence, developmental disabilities, and mental health symptoms.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Negotiation skills to facilitate agreements.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work or a related human behavioral science field from an accredited institution.
  • One year of professional social casework experience is preferred.
  • Valid Colorado State Driver's License is required.
  • Completion of Child Welfare Caseworker Academy Training within six months of hire, with ongoing certification maintenance through annual training.

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands of this position typically involve minimal physical effort under standard office conditions. Responsibilities may require the ability to operate a computer keyboard efficiently, engage in repetitive hand movements, and maintain prolonged periods of sitting. Occasional physical activities may include bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Travel may be required under various weather conditions.
