Position Overview: As a Senior Software Engineer at Karius, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and sustaining the software services and infrastructure essential for the functionality of Karius products in both commercial and research environments.
We are constructing a sophisticated software ecosystem that includes cloud infrastructure, software services, APIs, and interactive web and mobile interfaces, all powered by AI-driven data analytics pipelines. Our mission is to deliver life-saving solutions in the intricate field of infectious disease diagnostics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop software services that facilitate Karius genomics lab workflows and associated business processes, ultimately generating critical diagnostic reports.
- Utilize Domain Driven Design principles to meticulously document system architecture, service design, and interfaces.
- Ensure software services adhere to quality standards by implementing unit and functional testing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Lab Operations, Customer Success, Finance, Product Management, and Quality Engineering, while adhering to the defined Engineering Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Contribute to the technical advancement of the engineering organization through design and code reviews, technology assessments, and the development of proof of concepts.
- Provide operational support for diagnostic software services.
- Foster a high-performing team culture through close collaboration and engagement with fellow engineers to address challenges as they arise.

Travel Requirements: Occasional travel may be necessary, up to 10% of the time, if the candidate is remote.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Over 10 years of experience in software engineering, particularly in designing, developing, and maintaining backend solutions in production settings.
- In-depth knowledge of various system architectural patterns, including event-driven microservices, with substantial hands-on experience in related technologies.
- Expertise in the Typescript/JavaScript backend stack, utilizing frameworks such as Express.
- Experience in complex system data modeling and servicing through REST, GraphQL, and both NoSQL and SQL databases.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and cloud computing platforms, preferably AWS.
- Proficient in software deployment and operations using containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
- Experience with development lifecycle management tools such as Jira, Confluence, and GitHub.
- Experience in healthcare, life sciences, or regulated industries is a significant advantage.
