Position Overview: As a Senior Software Engineer on the Karius Engineering team, your primary responsibility will be to design, develop, and sustain the software services and necessary infrastructure that facilitate the operation of Karius products in both commercial and research environments.
We are constructing and managing a distinctive software ecosystem comprising cloud infrastructure, software services, APIs, interactive web and mobile interfaces, and AI-driven data analytics pipelines to deliver critical results in the complex field of infectious disease.
We believe that the success of Karius' offerings is propelled by our innovative technology and the sophistication of our software solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of software services that support Karius genomics lab workflows and associated business processes to produce life-saving diagnostic reports.
- Utilize Domain Driven Design principles to meticulously document system architecture, service design, and interfaces.
- Ensure software services adhere to quality standards by implementing unit and functional testing.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Lab Operations, Customer Success, Finance, Product Management, and Quality Engineering, while adhering to the established Engineering SDLC to deliver value to customers and users.
- Contribute to the technical initiatives of the engineering organization, including design and code reviews, technology assessments, and proof of concept development.
- Provide operational support for diagnostic software services.
- Foster a culture of high performance within the team through close collaboration and engagement with fellow engineers to address challenges as they arise.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Over 10 years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on designing, developing, and maintaining backend solutions in a production setting.
- In-depth knowledge of various system architectural patterns, particularly event-driven microservices, with hands-on experience in related technologies such as Kafka.
- Expertise in the Typescript/JavaScript backend stack, utilizing frameworks such as Express.
- Demonstrated experience in complex system data modeling and servicing through REST, GraphQL, and both NoSQL and SQL databases.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices in cloud environments, preferably AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Proficient in software deployment and operations using containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
- Experience with development lifecycle management tools such as Jira, Confluence, and GitHub.
- Experience in healthcare, life sciences, or regulated industries is a plus.
