Position Overview: As a Senior Software Engineer at Karius, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and sustaining the software services and infrastructure necessary for the effective operation of Karius products in both commercial and research environments.
Our team is engaged in creating and managing a sophisticated software architecture that includes cloud infrastructure, software services, APIs, interactive web and mobile interfaces, and AI-driven data analytics pipelines, all aimed at delivering critical results in the complex field of infectious disease.

Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop software services that facilitate Karius genomics lab workflows and associated business processes to produce essential diagnostic reports.
- Utilize Domain Driven Design principles to document system architecture, service design, and interfaces clearly.
- Ensure software services meet quality standards by implementing unit and functional testing.
- Collaborate with various teams, including Lab Operations, Customer Success, Finance, Product Management, and Quality Engineering, adhering to the established Engineering Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) to deliver value to customers and users.
- Contribute to the technical initiatives of the engineering organization, including design and code reviews, technology assessments, and proof of concept development.
- Provide operational support for diagnostic software services.
- Foster a high-performance team culture through close collaboration and engagement with fellow engineers to address challenges as they arise.

Travel Requirements: Occasional travel may be necessary, up to 10% of the time, for remote candidates.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Over 10 years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on designing, developing, and maintaining backend solutions in production settings.
- Strong understanding of various system architectural patterns, including event-driven microservices, with hands-on experience in related technologies such as Kafka.
- Expertise in Typescript/JavaScript backend frameworks, particularly Express.
- Experience with complex system data modeling and servicing through REST, GraphQL, and both NoSQL and SQL databases.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and cloud computing platforms, preferably AWS.
- Proficient in software deployment and operations using containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
- Experience with development lifecycle management tools such as Jira, Confluence, and GitHub.
- Experience in healthcare, life sciences, or regulated industries is a plus.
