Overview

Responsible for overseeing the security and management of personal belongings brought into the detention center during the intake, release, and transfer processes of residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain an accurate inventory of items collected during intake, documenting all entries in the Juvenile Case Management System (JCMS); generate property receipts that include the resident's full name, identification number, storage container number, and location.
  • Record cash received during intake, complete necessary documentation, and produce receipts while ensuring management approval as per established policies.
  • Oversee the daily maintenance of the property room to ensure the security of items, restricting access to unauthorized personnel, and monitoring the storage system.
  • Keep logs and documentation regarding residents' property in accordance with policy guidelines.
  • Conduct daily audits and report any missing or undocumented items to the Superintendent and Deputy.
  • Prepare daily reports per shift to account for stored property and facilitate the release and transfer of items to rightful owners or during youth transport.
  • Review daily court activities to prepare for property releases and transfers, documenting exchanges in the Juvenile Case Management System.
  • Coordinate with guardians to arrange property pickups during or prior to resident release.
  • Act as a backup for Juvenile Detention Officers during emergencies and perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Three years of relevant work experience or completion of 45 credit hours from an accredited institution in a related field, or a combination of both.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the public.
  • Must obtain First Aid/CPR Certification within 90 days of hire and comply with certification requirements as mandated by applicable standards within six months of employment.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record is essential.
  • Successful completion of a thorough background investigation and mandatory drug testing prior to employment, with ongoing random testing during employment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to shift changes as required.

Work Environment

Work is conducted within both secured and unsecured facilities, with potential exposure to various health risks. Physical demands include the ability to restrain or pursue youths and occasional lifting of 26-50 pounds. Transportation of youths may be required.
