Position Title: ICU Veterinary Nurse

Position Overview:

The ICU Veterinary Nurse plays a vital role in providing care for critically ill and injured animals within a veterinary teaching facility. This position is situated in the Emergency and Critical Care unit, where the nurse will guide and mentor students, veterinary technicians, and veterinarians in various procedures. Responsibilities include maintaining the cleanliness and organization of hospital areas, as well as ensuring that all necessary supplies and equipment are readily available.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver high-quality patient care for animals in critical condition.
  • Instruct and support students and staff in veterinary techniques.
  • Maintain an orderly and sanitary environment in the hospital.
  • Assist in the management of supplies and equipment.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess knowledge typically acquired through two to three years of college or a technical program in Veterinary Technology. A minimum of six months to one year of progressively responsible experience in patient care, surgical assistance, anesthesia, and sterilization is required. Proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing software is also necessary. Candidates must be licensed as a Veterinary Technician in the State of Michigan or be able to obtain such certification within one year of employment.


Work Schedule:

This position requires availability for three 13-hour shifts, including rotating weekends and holidays.


Physical Demands:

The role involves lifting and carrying animals weighing up to 50 pounds individually, or up to 150 pounds as part of a team.


Health Considerations:

Potential exposure to tuberculosis or other health risks associated with working with animals or biological specimens may be present.
