We are seeking a highly skilled Veterinary Nurse to join our team at the Michigan State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. As a Veterinary Nurse, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional patient care to ill and injured animals.
Key Responsibilities- Provide patient care in the VMC Emergency and Critical Care unit, including administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and performing various medical procedures.
- Instruct and demonstrate techniques to students, assist students, veterinary technicians, and veterinarians in their work.
- Maintain supplies, equipment, and cleanliness of hospital areas.
- Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical or vocational school in Veterinary Technology.
- Six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in extensive patient care, surgery, anesthesia, drug dosing, and sterilization.
- Experience in the use of spreadsheet and word processing software.
- Licensed as a Veterinary Technician with the State of Michigan or attainment of such certification within one year from date of employment.
This position requires the ability to lift and carry animals up to 50 pounds individually, or 150 pounds as a team. Additionally, there is a risk of exposure to animal or specimens with Mycobacterium bovis, and the use of a respirator may be required.
