Position Overview

As a vital member of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, the Veterinary Care Technician I plays a crucial role in delivering compassionate care to sick and injured animals.

This position is primarily focused on the Emergency and Critical Care unit, where you will guide and demonstrate essential techniques to students, while also assisting veterinary technicians and veterinarians in their daily responsibilities. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of hospital areas, as well as managing supplies and equipment.


In this role, you will develop and utilize a variety of skills, including central line placement, arterial catheterization, urinary catheterization, tracheostomy care, and patient care for ventilator and dialysis cases.

With the support of four Boarded Critical Care Specialized Veterinarians and two Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Technician Specialists, you will have ample opportunities for professional growth and development.

Qualifications and Experience


Applicants should possess knowledge typically acquired through two to three years of college or technical training in Veterinary Technology, along with six months to one year of progressively responsible experience in patient care, surgery, anesthesia, drug dosing, and sterilization. Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Candidates must be licensed as a Veterinary Technician in the State of Michigan or achieve such certification within one year of employment.

Experience in a veterinary hospital research setting is preferred.

Ideal candidates will have knowledge typically acquired through two to three years of college or technical training in Veterinary Technology, along with relevant experience in emergency medicine and an educational environment.
