Job Summary

South Middlesex Opportu is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Program Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our shelter, responding to emergency situations, and providing support to residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and enforce household rules and routines to maintain a safe and secure environment.
  • Respond effectively to emergency situations, remaining calm and composed under pressure.
  • Monitor chores, curfews, and household rules, setting limits and de-escalating disruptive situations as needed.
  • Provide written communication in logs at the end of each shift, documenting key events and incidents.
  • Offer emotional support and guidance to residents, promoting a positive and inclusive environment.
  • Attend staff meetings, group trainings, and supervisions as required, staying up-to-date on policies and procedures.
  • Accept donations and oversee volunteer activities, fostering a sense of community and engagement.
  • Uphold confidentiality, maintaining the trust and respect of clients, employees, and agency partners.
  • Drive the SMOC Program van to transport clients, ensuring safe and reliable transportation.
  • Engage with clients, understanding and addressing their needs, whether within or outside the scope of work.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client, employee, and agency information, adhering to federal and state laws, and funder requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with program/department, agency, and/or funder requirements, as well as SMOC policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED.
  • Sensitivity to low-income families of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently, with a strong sense of self-motivation and initiative.
  • Bilingual skills strongly preferred.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas and concepts.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Working Conditions:

As a Program Specialist, you will have direct or incidental contact with clients served by SMOC in various programs funded or administered through the Executive Office of Health and Human Services. A successful background check is required.
